Marcello and the goat Marcello was one of the sons of Jeremiah the shepherd who had been summoned by the angel to go to the Infant Jesus laying in a Manger that first Christmas Eve. When Marcello was very little he had been kidnapped to be sold as a slave. Very soon however, he was rescued and escaped only to fall in with a band of robbers in the environs of Bethlehem. Marcello, poor and unhappy with the people who took him in, would sometimes hide away in a little cave that was used as a stable in Bethlehem. One cold night he was made aware of a Newborn Child in another nearby cave. He had been told shepherds in the hills had received an apparition of angels who bade them go to the cave to see their king. When Marcello went to the stable to inquire about th
