Motu Proprio "Summorum Pontificum" Announcement

On July 7, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI released a papal document known as a Motu Proprio(of his own accord)titled "Summorum Pontificum" (in English, "...of the Supreme Pontiffs")which lifted any restrictions regarding the celebration of the Latin Tridentine Mass according to the Missal of 1962. A Motu Proprio is a letter personally written and signed by the Pope, which first states the reason inducing the Pope to act and then states the law or regulation made.

Recently, Vatican Secretary of State, Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone, presented the document with a letter explaining Pope Benedict's motivations for this publication to some 30 bishops from different countries at the Vatican palace. The letter emphasizes the unity of the Roman Rite, which from now on will have two forms, an “ordinary” and an “extraordinary” supposed to complement and inspire each other.

Prayer Before A Crucifix

Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before Your face I humbly kneel, and with burning soul pray and beseech You to fix deep in my heart lively sentiment of faith, hope and charity, true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment, while I contemplate with great love and tender pity Your five wounds, pondering over them within me, calling to mind the words which David, Your prophet, said of You, my good Jesus: "They have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones" (Ps 21, 17-18)

The Last Supper

Today, mass is only celebrated once in any church, and this is in the evening, to recall the Last Supper. The ritual of the washing of the feet is also performed after the homily. This action is an expression of ones readiness to suffer and die, both in Jesus and in us.
