Saint Jude is a Christian saint and one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. His other names are Jude Thaddaeus. He should not be confused with Judas Iscariot, yet another apostle, who betrayed Jesus and later (according to Matthew) committed suicide.
Saint Jude was a brother of St. James the Less. These brothers have often been identified with Jude, brother of Jesus and James the Just, two of the
"brethren of the Lord
" mentioned in Mark 6:3:
"Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?
" In the Acts of Thomas, one of the New Testament apocrypha written in Syria in the early 3rd century, he was identified with Jude Thomas, which is the full name of the apostle Thomas according to Syrian tradition.
