When Lucy of Syracuse was a young girl she became a Christian, a decision opposed by many at that time in history including Lucys Father and mother. After her father's death, a Marriage was arranged for Lucy by her Mother Eutychia. Lucy prayed at the Tomb of St. Agatha for her Mother to accept her beliefs. Miraculously Euthchia's long hemorrhagic illness was cured and she accepted Lucys faith and wishes to live for God. Because of this, Lucy has become known as a patron of those suffering from similar illnesses.
Lucy's rejected Bridegroom denounced her because of her Christian faith, and as a result the government attempted to force Lucy into prostitution.
