This incredible man began his life as the son of a Roman nobleman. After his years of education, he would become prefect of Rome in the year 571. Three years later he would become a monk, and go on to found several monasteries. When elected Pope in 586, he began powerful reformations, removing corrupt clergyman, and standardizing the use of chant, thus we have Gregorian Chant today! He is the second pope to called Great, but the first who was a monk.
